Trip South Africa 2006 Trip through South Africa and Lesotho | Although, I'm not a real off the road Motorcyclist, I had a lot of fun driving through South Africa and Lesotho. In two long weekends, I managed to drive 2500 miles ( 4000 Km ), on a small 200cc of the road Honda bike. Incredible, and it also seemed that this bike was indestructible. From Bloemfontein to Maseru in Lesotho, through the mountains to Durban.
First I intended to rent a motorcycle, but in Bloemfontein, this was not possible. So at last I bought one. The Hotel manager promised to buy it of me when I left.
I only wanted a small of the road bike, because I knew it would not be a trip for a larger bike, considering the harsh road conditions in Lesotho.
The first 100 Miles I wished I had a heavier and faster bike, but as soon as I hit the mountains, I thanked everybody for having this small one. There was no road left, only small donkey trails with holes and rocks. I had to stand in the saddle for hours.
As everybody knows, a bike needs gas. But where, in the middle of nowhere? Finally I met some native guys, and I managed to explain them, by pointing in the gas tank, that that's what I needed.
They pointed towards the bushes, but what choice did I have.
I finally got to a couple of huts, and a lady offered me a couple of cola bottles, filled with gas, good for another 80 Miles.
When I have the time, I will report some more about the trip. |
